In retrospect, Ubisoft should have delayed Assassin’s Creed Shadow sooner and pushed Star Wars: Outlaws into the November release window for open-world games. That would give both teams plenty of time to polish up their titles and perhaps avoid such a dire situation for the French publisher.
Still, the damage has been done, and the task of rebuilding now awaits. After the soft launch, the company said it was fully committed to increasing Star Wars Outlaws sales through the holiday period, and to that end, it shared a roadmap for future fixes. The first update, scheduled for October 3rd, will resolve many bugs, and the October 24th patch will include various quality of life improvements.

And then the big event comes. On November 21st, we will be rolling out the first major expansion of the release: Wild Cards. It also adds free contracting and makes significant changes to combat and stealth. By the way, this is right before Black Friday, so expect to see some absolutely hefty discounts as Ubisoft looks to boost disappointing sales for this title.
While this is a sound strategy and will probably work, it’s a terrible indictment of today’s PS5 gaming. Prices tend to drop and patches improve the overall experience, so there’s little incentive to buy a title at launch. Why pre-order when you can get a great experience at half price later?
