More than 57,000 fans packed into Cleveland Browns Stadium roared when Bron Breaker defeated Sami Zayn to win the WWE Intercontinental Championship at SummerSlam, but two supporters stood out in the enthusiastic crowd: Breaker’s father and uncle, Rick and Scott Steiner.
WWE cameras captured the Hall of Fame duo brimming with pride as they watched Bron win his first major title on the WWE main roster. After Breaker pinned Zayn, Rick and Scott, who were sitting in the skybox, rose to their feet and began applauding the new champion. Rick, the father, let out his signature roar before embracing his brother Scott and Diamond Dallas Page, who was sitting next to him.
After the SummerSlam show, a humble Breaker smiled like a child as he spoke about sharing his accomplishment with his father and uncle. “I went over to their booth and hugged them both,” Breaker said. “They both told me they loved me and it made me so happy. It was a heartwarming moment I’ll never forget.”
Breaker’s emotional victory not only cemented his bond with his family, but also proved that he was definitely going to be the next big thing in WWE. In that sense, he joined the likes of Ultimate Warrior and Brock Lesnar, who began a proud history of winning titles at WWE’s summer spectacle. In 1988, Warrior shot to fame when he took the Intercontinental Championship from the Honky Tonk Man. In 2002, when Lesnar dominated The Rock to win the undefeated WWE Championship, WWE strapped a rocket to his back.
After a successful stint in NXT, Breaker made his WWE main roster debut on SmackDown in February and was drafted to RAW in April. He called his performance at SummerSlam a turning point in his career, proving he was a player who could dominate for the long term. He thanked Zayn for the opportunity and said Zayn’s career was worthy of induction into the Hall of Fame.
But this moment belongs to Breaker. Despite coming out as a heel, Breaker seems ready to embrace the fans as he takes his place at the top of WWE.
“My turn. Bron Breaker’s turn. The Dog’s turn,” said the new Intercontinental Champion.
