At Evo 2024, it was announced that SNK vs. Capcom: SVC Chaos would be re-released for PlayStation 4, Nintendo Switch, and Steam. The game is available now. Shortly after, it was announced that Kevin Rian would be appearing in Fatal Fury: City of the Wolves.
SNK vs. Capcom: SVC Chaos was originally released in 2003. This one-on-one crossover fighting game features a total of 36 characters from SNK and Capcom.
Characters featured in SNK vs. Capcom: SVC Chaos include Terry Bogard, Kyo, Ryo, Mr. Karate, Iori, Geese Howard, Mai Shiranui, Ryu, Ken, Akuma, Chun-Li, Zero, M. Bison, Demitri, and many more.
According to the SNK vs. Capcom: SVC Chaos Steam page, the game is priced at $19.99.
SNK has confirmed that the crossover fighter will be available on other platforms early next week, with the PlayStation 4, Nintendo Switch and GOG versions due to arrive on Monday, July 22nd.
Earlier this year, it was revealed that SNK’s Terry Bogard and Mai Shiranui would join M. Bison and Elena as characters in Street Fighter 6 Season 2. Terry is set to be released in Fall 2024, while Mai is scheduled for a Winter 2025 release.
The re-release of SNK vs. Capcom: SVC Chaos will also feature rollback netcode and tournament mode for an improved online experience, as well as a hitbox viewer and gallery mode.
There was also a Capcom vs. SNK fighting game released, but this was a collaborative version spearheaded by SNK, so needless to say, the news of SNK vs. Capcom: SVC Chaos returning in this way is good news for anyone hoping that Capcom vs. SNK 3 will one day be released.
The original SNK vs. Capcom games have been re-released before in the NeoGeo Pocket Color Selection pack, which featured a handheld fighting game and a card game, but the larger arcade/console fighting games from both companies have not been re-released until now.
SNK producer Oda Yasuyuki recently said that he’s definitely interested in working more with Capcom in the future, and Street Fighter’s lead developer has shared similar thoughts about a future Capcom vs. SNK crossover, including an all-new title.
This also greatly increases your chances of picking up the new release of Capcom vs. SNK 2 (and possibly even the original version), which hasn’t been available to purchase since the PlayStation 2 version was released on the PlayStation 3 Store without online play or any new features.
With the Marvel vs. Capcom Fighting Collection coming out later this year, perhaps the Capcom vs. SNK Fighting Collection could be the next potential release.
Alongside the surprise announcement for this game, SNK also announced that Kevin Rian from Fatal Fury: City of the Wolves will be appearing as well as Vice and Mature as special DLC characters for King of Fighters 15 later this year.
Then again, it’s certainly a promising sign that Capcom and SNK are willing to work together, and if this re-release is successful enough, perhaps we’ll see further collaboration between the two companies.
