Tesla has shared details about its new subsidy match program in the Netherlands, which is being offered temporarily on some pre-configured Model Y units.
Tesla shared the new program in a post on its X platform on Monday, saying it would offer a subsidy worth 2,950 euros (about $3,215) in the Private Electric Passenger Vehicle Subsidy Scheme (SEPP) for pre-configured Model Y rear-wheel drive (RWD) vehicles. The promotion is currently available for buyers in the Netherlands who order between July 9 and August 31 and take delivery by September 30.
Tesla’s pre-configured Model Y RWD units in the Netherlands can be found on our inventory website.
Tesla’s Model Y was initially eligible for SEPP subsidies last year after a price cut brought RWD models into the subsidized price band of €12,000-45,000 (about $13,078-49,041). In March, Tesla increased prices of the Model Y across Europe, once again removing RWD models from the subsidy-eligible range.
But in the current promotion, Tesla is reintroducing the same discount as the subsidy for a limited time, so buyers don’t have to miss out on the reduced price.
Tesla launched a fourth configuration of the Model Y in Europe in April, adding a Long Range version to the base-level RWD. In the U.S., Tesla also launched the RWD Long Range, but unlike in Europe, the original base-level RWD has been discontinued, where you can buy both.
The Netherlands is an important market for Tesla, as evidenced by the fact that it is one of the first countries where Supercharger stations will open for all electric vehicle (EV) brands in 2022 and is participating in the program’s early pilots.
In 2023, 13,714 Model Y registrations were reported in the Netherlands, giving the electric SUV a roughly 17% share of the total Dutch EV market. Tesla was the EV leader in the Netherlands, capturing an 8.3% market share across its lineup.
