Starting with Tesla Software Update 2024.32, Tesla has made a major (and unexpected) change to the way it handles power sockets in its vehicles. This change affects all vehicles except Cybertruck. Cybertruck already allows you to adjust how power sockets are handled on a case-by-case basis.
power socket replacement
This power socket change means that in 2024.32 Tesla cars will turn off the 12V socket and USB port while in Sentry mode. Previously, all 12V sockets and USB ports on the back of the car remained powered while the car was started or Sentry Mode was activated.
Currently, when a vehicle goes to sleep, owners are unable to operate devices that rely on these ports. This change makes some accessories, such as the car’s refrigerator, almost useless. Owners have previously relied on Sentry mode turning on when the vehicle is parked, providing power to the refrigerator in the vehicle’s sub-trunk. This change also prevents owners from using Sentry mode to power USB ports to charge laptops and other devices.
Until further changes are made, owners should continue to power the 12V socket and USB port using camp mode. However, camping mode leaves the vehicle unlocked, making it less secure and not suitable for things like sub-trunk refrigerators.
cybertruck power interface
Tesla may be planning to integrate the Cybertruck’s Outlet & Accessories menu into the rest of its vehicles. Cybertruck’s Outlet Menu allows you to keep outlets in your vehicle’s cabin (and bed) active even when the vehicle is not in use. These outlets will remain powered for up to 12 hours after the Cybertruck dismounts.

Sentry mode improvements
Drew Baglino, now Tesla’s former senior vice president of powertrain and energy, said in February that Tesla is considering reducing the amount of power used in Sentry mode. He said the power consumption of Sentry mode needs to be improved and the team is working on an update that will reduce power by about 40%. According to Baglino, this improvement is expected to come in the second quarter of this year, but it is unclear whether this change in update 2024.32 is part of the changes that will lower the power consumption of Sentry mode.
Even if these are planned changes, we hope Tesla makes them optional so owners can choose when to keep the outlet powered and when to conserve energy.

Tesla has issued an OTA recall for the Cybertruck. Naturally, this recall has already been fixed for customers’ vehicles. We’ll discuss this recall in more detail later, but more importantly, the recall filing reveals that Tesla is currently manufacturing and selling 27,185 Foundation Series Cybertrucks to customers.
OTA recall
OTA Recall – Issued with update 2024.32.5.2 and later, addressing an issue that could cause a delay in the display of the rear view camera on the dashboard.
This occurs if the Cybertruck is turned on and then immediately shifted into reverse. The rearview camera does not appear on the screen within the required 2 seconds.
According to the NHTSA filing, Tesla has already fixed the issue with an OTA update, and now the rearview camera will appear on demand within two seconds. This was also an easy OTA fix for Tesla.

27,000 Cybertrucks
The filing also revealed that Tesla had produced and delivered approximately 27,000 Foundation Series Cybertrucks as of September 14th. Tesla has been producing the Cybertruck for about 11 months and will celebrate its 12-month anniversary on November 13th.
Elon Musk has previously said Tesla intends to produce about 375,000 trucks a year to compete with the ICE pickup market. Currently, Tesla produces 1.7 million Model 3s and Model Ys annually, and approximately 80,000 Models S and Model X annually.
All in all, the 27,000 per year figure is just the beginning of production, and we expect that number to continue to grow at a rapid pace as Tesla expands and improves its production line. That number is expected to grow even more now that the Foundation Series has ended and Tesla has opened an invitation for pre-orderers to set up a non-FS Cybertruck. The non-FS Cybertruck costs $79,990, which is $20,000 less than the Foundation series. The Cybertruck is also eligible for Canada’s iZEV heavy-duty EV rebate.
This puts the Cybertruck in a good position for the future, already outperforming competing EVs in the same market. We look forward to seeing how quickly Tesla meets future demand for the non-Foundation Series Cybertruck.

Tesla has released software update 2024.38 to employees for final internal testing. Preliminary release notes for this update have been published.
This update is small and appears to focus on two main changes. However, please note that additional features not described here may apply only to certain regions or vehicles.
Two features are the ability to use Spotify with a free Spotify account (premium connection required) and improved vehicle side mirror functionality.
We were recently able to confirm these changes with our employees.
spotify
With Premium Connectivity’s free Spotify Premium (Europeans only) going the way of the dodo, it looks like Tesla and Spotify will allow you to log into your Spotify account with a free account, at least in Europe and Australia. Tesla recently announced that vehicles using its “streaming” app in North America will be redirected to the free version of Slacker, which includes ads and other limitations.
Spotify is only available for free in Europe and Australia, and those users already have free access to Spotify Premium, which is no big deal. But if Tesla and Spotify allow you to stream Spotify in your car with a free account, it would be a huge benefit for many owners. The free version of Spotify has limited skip functionality and contains ads. Other music services require a premium or paid subscription before you can stream them in your car. In either case, you’ll need Tesla’s premium connectivity plan to stream music over your vehicle’s connectivity. Alternatively, you can use your phone’s hotspot feature.
side mirror
Side mirrors finally have additional customization options with two improvements.
First, you will be able to customize the tilt of the side mirrors when reversing. By default, Tesla’s side mirrors tilt downward while reversing, giving you a better view of things near the edges of the vehicle instead of in your blind spots. In these cases, you will be able to customize the level of tilt. To adjust the tilt angle, go to (Controls) > (Mirror) > (Adjust Tilt Position).
This is helpful for people who are taller or shorter than normal. You will be able to customize the angle to suit you. It’s a simple update, but I’m very grateful!
Next are the side mirrors, which can be folded using the quick menu. This is the menu that pops up when you hold down the left scroll wheel. You can also expand it from the quick menu.
Other updates
As with other recent updates, Tesla has an “Other Updates” section that lists smaller features that don’t warrant their own release notes.
In this section, Tesla outlines four improvements, but only two are noteworthy. One is the ability to manually fold the side mirrors using the quick function mentioned above, and the other is an improved WiFi menu. Here are the four points Tesla mentions in its release notes:
– The Wi-Fi menu provides detailed information about your Wi-Fi connection and tips to improve your connection.
– Hold the left scroll wheel and select Fold Mirror to fold the mirror inward or outward.
– This update includes important security fixes and improvements
– This version contains minor fixes and improvements

This update is expected to begin rolling out to users within the next week or two. Therefore, it won’t be long until the full release notes for this update are available.
