Just over a week after announcing its CyberCab and RoboVan self-driving car platforms, Tesla has launched another free trial of its fully self-driving (FSD) monitoring software.
Customers in the US and Canada received an email this week about another 30-day free trial of FSD Supervised. This is the second time Tesla has launched such a program (not the Tesla app). Most vehicles appear to be getting the old FSD v12.3.6, but some have since been upgraded to v12.5.4.1, the latter including Actual Smart Summon (ASS) and hands-free driving. Includes support for wearing sunglasses.
Tesla began rolling out an initial free trial of FSD Supervised during its all-out attack on the software in March, and at the same time required test drives of the software for users who had already taken demo drives when v12 was released. Ta. At the time, Tesla also launched an additional round of free FSD transfers on new car purchases, and the company recently also launched this in the fourth quarter of this year.
Earlier this month, Tesla announced two new platforms for FSD’s upcoming unsupervised builds called Cybercab and Robovan.
Cybercab is a two-seater, fully autonomous vehicle based on FSD that does not include a steering wheel or other vehicle controls and also has the ability to charge wirelessly instead of a charging port. On the other hand, Roboban is a large self-driving bus with an Art Deco style.
The news also revealed that the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) has begun investigating 2.4 million Tesla vehicles following reports of several accidents, including one injury and one pedestrian death. It was received and announced. The agency said the study examines the ability of FSD monitoring software to detect obstacles and respond appropriately in low visibility conditions.
Indeed, Tesla’s FSD is currently only available in “supervised” builds, requiring drivers to remain alert and able to take back control of their vehicle at any time. Tesla also alerts drivers to this when the hands-free system is activated and details safety warnings about the software in each owner’s manual.
Fully automated driving (with supervision) is a practical feature that requires you to pay attention to the road at all times. Always keep your hands on the wheel, be aware of road conditions and surrounding traffic, be aware of pedestrians and cyclists, and be ready to take immediate action at all times (especially in blind spots, near intersections, and in tight driving situations). .
Failure to follow these instructions may result in damage, serious injury, or death. It is your responsibility to familiarize yourself with the limitations of fully autonomous (supervised) driving and the situations in which it may not function as expected.
