Texas and Oregon had big wins on Saturday, making them the top two teams in the AP Top 25.
The Longhorns maintained first place with a 34-3 victory over Oklahoma. Texas had Quinn Ewers back on the field for the first time since Week 3, scoring 34 straight points in the win.
Oregon State almost won. With less than two minutes remaining, the Ducks made the go-ahead field goal, defeating Ohio State 32-31. The Buckeyes got within field goal range, but were set back by an offensive pass interference penalty and QB Will Howard slid late in a scramble for a field goal as time expired.
With this loss, the Buckeyes dropped from second to fourth place. Penn State defeated the University of Southern California 33-30 in overtime. The Nittany Lions moved up one spot.
Georgia remained in fifth place, ahead of Miami, Alabama, LSU, Iowa State, and Clemson. The Tigers defeated Ole Miss in overtime Saturday night, moving up five spots. Following the loss, the Rebels dropped nine places to 18th place.
Tennessee fell to 11th place after an overtime home win over Florida. The Vols have dropped three spots, ahead of Notre Dame, BYU, Texas A&M and Boise State.
The Broncos are the top team in the nation’s non-major conferences and are in three groups of five teams in the top 25. Army (23rd) and Navy (25th) are new to the poll this week after undefeated starts. . The Black Knights defeated UAB on Saturday, giving Navy a 5-0 start.
Vanderbilt (4-2) became the top team outside of the top 25 with a 20-13 win over Kentucky a week after defeating Alabama at home. The SEC has six teams ranked in the top 14 and eight teams in the top 25 overall. The Big Ten has six teams ranked in the poll, including three of the top five teams.
