Prince Kofi Amoabeng, founder of defunct UT Bank and UT Holdings
Prince Kofi Amoabeng, businessman and founder of the collapsed UT Bank and UT Holdings, has alleged that the menace of corruption has worsened under the administration of Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo.
According to Kofi Amoabeng, a retired captain in the Ghana Armed Forces, rather than fighting corruption, the government is encouraging it.
The businessman, who made these remarks in an interview with TV3 on September 11, 2024, suggested that the President should be aware of the level of corruption in the government because people who had nothing have suddenly become super rich.
“… They know they are the president and his inner circle, and they have to understand that the level of spending, the character of these people, and the assets he is controlling are way beyond their capabilities, they can’t do it.”
“Brother, ask me if we’ve reached the end of the road. The President must realise that. So, in fact, they are encouraging corruption because people who had nothing, who never worked, all of a sudden have all these cars, properties. People have bank accounts, they say they are travelling from place to place. They have no jobs to their name. So, do you think they are fighting corruption? No, they’re not,” he said.
Kofi Amoabengu also reiterated his support for former President John Dramani Mahama, who is currently the leader of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) in the presidential election scheduled for December 7, 2024.
He was of the view that Mahama would be a better president because of his experience.
