Red carpet season kicked off on Sunday, with some of the biggest names in TV gathering at the Peacock Theater in Los Angeles for the 76th Primetime Emmy Awards ceremony.
Though the Emmy Awards are now held in their usual September date (last year they were postponed to mid-January due to an actors’ and writers’ strike), they often provide a hint as to which TV shows will later achieve big success at the Golden Globes and Screen Actors Guild Awards, and they also often predict the eveningwear trends that will dominate Hollywood in the coming months.
The night’s red carpet was relatively low-key, with many attendees opting for dark, floor-length, classic silhouettes, and column dresses. That said, there were plenty of fun touches among the traditionally elegant black outfits, from the subtle gold detailing on Laverne Cox’s vintage Alexander McQueen to the shimmering pavé on Selena Gomez’s halter-neck Ralph Lauren gown.
But some of the night’s best moments were in an all-brighter shade: pink, from the bubblegum hue of Meryl Streep’s pantsuit and pussy-bow blouse to the dusty pink of Hannah Einbinder’s crepe jersey and tulle Louis Vuitton gown. Eiza Gonzalez and Aja Naomi King also got in on the trend, wearing dresses by Tamara Ralph and Giambattista Valli, respectively.
Elsewhere, attendees played with eye-catching materials, like “The Bear” actor Ayo Edebiri, who dazzled in a mosaic-like sequined Bottega Veneta look, and Quinta Bruson, who wore a strapless, liquid-like couture mermaid dress by Georges Chakras. Kristen Wiig (in Oscar de la Renta) and Gillian Anderson (in Emilia Wickstead) were among those who made an impression in silver metallic dresses (or, in the case of Ella Purnelle’s Paco Rabanne dress, chainmail).
In the menswear section, many attendees eschewed traditional black tie in favor of something more glamorous. Abbott Elementary star Chris Perfetti looked striking in a dramatic ruffled shirt from Christian Siriano’s Spring 2025 ready-to-wear collection, while Fallout star Aaron Moten showed up in a bright red Kenzo suit with a nail-collar. Traitor actor Alan Cumming and fellow Scotsman Richard Gadd, producer of Baby Reindeer, both wore kilts, with Cumming’s plaid cummerbund train emerging from a cream Teddy von Ranson jacket that doubled as a scarf.
Even the men who opted for more traditional tailoring incorporated playful touches, from presenter Dan Levy’s sculptural Loewe neckline to the unbuttoned silk shirt of Jonathan Bailey’s Giorgio Armani suit.
