Prince of Persia: The Lost Crown was one of the best games of 2024, and we thought it would be even better with the recently released DLC. Sadly, new reports suggest that the excellent Metroidvania development team has been disbanded by Ubisoft, refusing to produce a sequel.
According to French gaming journalist Gautoz from the Origami YouTube channel (as summarized by ResetEra user Arubedo), Ubisoft was deciding on the game’s future weeks after its January 2024 launch. The company made it clear to the Ubisoft Montpellier team that once all the cosmetics and DLC were released, it would be “done.”
Not only that, Gautoz also claims that members of the development team suggested a sequel, but Ubisoft didn’t greenlight it. The team then tried to deliver two expansions, but again, “Ubisoft needed more people to help with other projects that had a better chance of selling” and because a sequel was in the works. It was rejected on the grounds that doing so could actually have a negative impact on the long-term sales of The Lost. Crown.

This is just a rumor at this point, but Ubisoft’s disappointing results aren’t news. Two weeks ago, Bloomberg reported that the company’s brand has lost more than half of its market value by 2024 and may be considering taking it private. Games like Star Wars Outlaws have underperformed, and Assassin’s Creed Shadows was recently delayed from early access. was also cancelled.
But we’re still upset to hear that the team that also worked on Rayman Origins and Rayman Legends may be disbanding. We’ve been hoping to see a sequel to this game, but that expectation, or even a new Rayman game, feels like a pipe dream…
We will let you know when we receive official information regarding this story.
