Scarves and turtlenecks are in for fall, but we’re here to tell you the shaved bob is fall’s sharpest style.
Lily Collins hit the red carpet this week to celebrate season 4 of Emily in Paris and showed off a razor-shaved bob, which was pretty much perfect. Parted in the middle and pinned behind one ear, the cut fell a few inches above the shoulders and featured razor-shaved ends and a messy finish. The hairstylist behind the style, Gregory Russell, designed a sleek part that gets more textured downwards.

London’s bob king, George Northwood, is also a fan of Collins’ style. But what exactly is a razor-edged bob? “Unlike a scissor-cut bob, this one’s cut with a razor, so you get slightly jagged, textured edges,” explains Northwood. “It looks a little ripped at the bottom, so it’s less harsh than a regular bob and has a more modern feel.”

Because a scissor-cut, one-length bob can sometimes look a little neat, this technique gives the hair a slightly messy, cool finish, whether it’s styled or not. In Northwood’s opinion, a cut like this should be worn as natural as possible. “It’s straight, but naturally straight,” he adds. Another great example of this cut pulled off is French influencer Lena Simonne’s lived-in, shaved bob.
Styling? Naturally, we all want as little work as possible, and luckily this cut is well-suited to that. Follow Northwood’s advice to keep it as low-maintenance as possible, and use a texture spray and dry shampoo to add texture and a little volume to your ends. It’s timeless and chic, and perfect for any occasion. Say hello to your next haircut.
