It may be the best season to get cozy, but summer style is still in full swing, according to this week’s red carpet. Between the peppy colors and sexy silhouettes, A-listers embraced warm-weather attire. That is, bulky coats and knitwear are not needed here.
If fall style is all about layering and proportion, the week’s best-dressed stars embraced standalone statement pieces instead. This is as seen in some of the week’s busiest events in New York City, from the star-studded Academy Museum Gala in Los Angeles to the theatrical Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show.
There was a lot of great fashion at last night’s Academy Gala, but there were a few that really stood out. Specifically, Greta Lee in a Loewe floral dress with a tiered skirt and Kaia Gerber in a Givenchy archival black dress with intricate beadwork. Both looks feature an antique finish for a fresh, modern look.
Elsewhere, the standout ensembles were a little more sexy. Tyra turned heads at the Victoria’s Secret show in New York wearing a deconstructed pink Salifu Barta dress with cutouts everywhere. So did Zendaya, who wore a vintage Bob Mackie crystal-encrusted dress to the 2024 Rock and Roll Hall of Fame ceremony. It was to give an award to Cher. That made sense considering Zendaya was there to present an award to the legendary singer. (Elsewhere, Peter Dundas created a glittering gold number for Hall of Famer Mary J. Blige, inspired by the torch singers of the 1940s and 1950s.)
However, that’s not to say that more subtle style moments didn’t make an impact this week. Nicki Minaj looked smart in a form-fitting Alaïa dress at Vogue’s Forces of Fashion event in New York. And at the premiere of Anora in New York, rising red carpet star Mikey Madison looked elegant in a red strapless Schiaparelli dress.
