“If I told Shan I felt pressured to take to social media to express my grief over a 36-year relationship and a flame that was extinguished too soon, she would say: I was 15 when Shan and I met. I was the boss’s daughter with no voice and she was a star with a big voice. She protected me. She helped me believe I had a voice and I was worth it. We quickly became best friends.”
“We were each other’s wingwomen, true sounding boards, support systems to get through bad relationships, sometimes like roommates, travel buddies and so much more. She was always on my side. Always had my back. Always believed in me when I didn’t/couldn’t believe in myself. We were young. Our friendship was conditioned by so many influences, external and internal. In a world where childhood friendships that often shape so much of us as adults can’t be repaired, we had that chance. I am grateful that @theshando and I were able to go back in time as adult friends and remember why we truly loved each other in the first place. To reminisce. And to symbolically laugh again like we used to. No one can make me laugh like that. Core laughter!”
“She was a rebel at a time when most women felt uncomfortable being strong. She never tried, she just was. She was sexy, strong, nonchalant, relatable and all with a dash of wicked humor! Her sarcastic humor was some of my favorites. And no one makes Frito pie better than Shan!” Spelling concluded, “Shan… I will carry that fire. Take my strength! And I will continue to be rebellious for you. I love you with all my heart. Always. 🖤💔.”
