With the 2024 Tour de France drawing to a close, Tadej Pogacar looks poised to hold off competition from Jonas Vingegaard and Remco Evenepoel to win the yellow jersey for a third time, with the Slovenian set to reap big rewards.
Riders receive bonuses from their teams for their performance on the bike during the Tour, but there is also a large prize purse on offer from race organisers ASO.
Pogacar will take home a huge first place prize for his efforts, but there will also be huge prize money for stage wins, the Spirit Award and mountain points.
Tour de France prize money
The total prize money for the 2024 Tour de France will be 2.5 million euros, with the overall winner receiving 20% of that amount, or 500,000 euros.
Every finisher in Paris will receive 1,000 euros.
Individual Stage Prize Money
Winning a stage in the Tour earns a prize of 11,000 euros.
Green and polka dot jersey prize money
The winner of the points award for best sprinter and the King of the Mountains will receive a prize of 25,000 euros.
White Jersey Prize
At the end of the Tour, the best young rider (under 25 years old) will receive 20,000 euros.
There are other prizes up for grabs at the Tour de France: a daily combat power award with a prize of 2,000 euros and the winner of the overall combat power award will receive 20,000 euros.
The first rider to summit each category climb will receive 800 euros, category one will receive 600 euros, category two will receive 400 euros, category three will receive 300 euros and category four will receive 200 euros.
The leaders of each division will receive 300 euros per day, while the leader of the overall standings will receive 500 euros.
The winner of the Souvenir Henri Desgrange (the first rider to reach the highest point of the race) receives 5,000 euros, and this year Pogačar won, along with a stage win, taking home the bulk of the prize money.
The winner of the team standings, determined by the combined time of the top three riders from each team, will receive 50,000 euros, with the fastest team of each day also receiving 2,800 euros. This prize money is traditionally shared among the teams.
