Recent Super Bowl champion Travis Kelce is set to star in the action-comedy “Loose Cannons,” which is being developed by Lionsgate, sources confirm to Deadline.
Lionsgate declined to comment.
Story details for the film have been kept under wraps, but with the new NFL season just weeks away, it’s likely to be a while before filming begins. The screenplay will be written by Timothy Dowling (Pixels). John Wick’s Chad Stahelski will produce for 87Eleven Entertainment alongside Jason Spitz and Alex Young.
“Loose Cannons” marks the feature film debut for Kelsey, best known for his relationship with pop superstar Taylor Swift and as a tight end for the Kansas City Chiefs. Just starting out in his Hollywood career, the only role he has committed so far is to star in Ryan Murphy’s upcoming horror drama “Grossly,” which premieres on September 25th on FX. The drama revolves around a series of violent crimes that have unsettled a small community and centers on Detective Lois Tryon (Niecy Nash-Betts), who feels that these crimes are eerily personal to her, as if someone, or something, is mocking her. Lesley Manville and Courtney B. Vance also star in the film, but Kelsey’s role has been kept secret until now.
Kelsey, who is also the host of Prime Video’s “Are You Smarter Than a Celebrity?”, recently served as executive producer on the dark comedy “My Dead Friend Zoe,” which premiered at SXSW and will be released November 1st by Briarcliff Entertainment.
Dowling’s previous screenplays include “Pixels,” starring Adam Sandler and Kevin James, as well as films such as “This Means War,” “Knight and Day,” “Role Models” and “Just Go With It.”
87Eleven recently produced the female-led John Wick spinoff Ballerina starring Ana de Armas, which is set to hit theaters on June 6, 2025, but its future slate includes a number of projects, including Stahelski’s Highlander and the recently announced TV series John Wick: Under the High Table.
News of Kelce’s involvement with the Loose Cannons was first reported by Jeff Sneider of The InSneider.
