Losing weight can seem difficult at any stage of life, but the hormonal imbalances of menopause further complicate the problem.
Nutritionist Sarah Lauck recently warned women on her TikTok channel about the “two worst breakfasts you can eat during menopause.”
“I’m a qualified nutritionist and I help over 40 women look and feel their best as they go through the aging process, especially menopause,” she told viewers.
Experts say the worst mistake women can make at breakfast is eating nothing but black coffee.

“So many women do this to eat less, do intermittent fasting, and reduce the amount of calories going into their bodies,” Sarah Rourke explained.
“I’m not against intermittent fasting at all, but I do believe that there are times when it’s good, and there are times in your life when you need to be a little more careful.
“When you go through perimenopause and your hormones are out of whack, your body is probably going to be under a little more stress.
“If you do a lot of fasting on top of that, it can put even more stress on your body.
“In fact, if you’re going to fast, it’s best to move dinner forward and eat breakfast in the morning.”
Drinking coffee first thing in the morning on an empty stomach can cause a spike in cortisol, which can lead to hormonal imbalances.
“And you end up storing more belly fat,” the expert added.
Sarah says the second-worst breakfast for menopausal women is “a nice little bowl of Weetabix[or a cereal]with a little milk and some berries.”
It’s low in fat and high in fibre, but experts warn there are better sources of fiber than common cereals.
“Where’s the protein? Where’s the healthy fats? It’s much better to start your day with high-quality protein and healthy fats than a bowl of carbs,” she says. I did.

Because the body’s need for protein naturally increases during menopause, evidence suggests that protein deficiency contributes to weight gain during menopause.
Additionally, hormonal dysregulation often leads to increased hunger, and excluding protein from the diet can make hunger even worse.
This food group is essential for keeping your body feeling full and satisfied while helping increase your metabolic rate.
Also, cutting out protein greatly increases the risk of losing muscle mass, which is essential for a long and healthy lifespan as we age.
