Reactions from the nominees 2024 Emmy AwardsIncluding first-time nominees.
Tyler James Williams, “Abbott Elementary”
“I wanted to do it with good people and I’m happy to be on this journey with good people and to be celebrating this with good people. So this is not just a celebration of what happened, but a celebration of who it happened with.” — Williams, nominated for Best Supporting Actor in a Comedy Series for “Abbott Elementary.”
Nikki Glaser with her special “Someday You’ll Die”
“I try not to fall into my imposter syndrome. I try to just accept it and say, ‘Yeah, thank you, I deserve this.’ But then this feeling of, ‘Is this a mistake?’ creeps in. But I worked so hard on this and I’m so excited about it. It feels good to be recognized in this way and it feels good to celebrate with the team I worked with.” — Glaser, nominated for Best Pre-Recorded Variety Special for “Nikki Glaser: Someday You’ll Die.”
Eric Andre, “The Eric Andre Show”
“I was so overwhelmed with emotion that I cried. I nearly threw up. It was like a cathartic, positive vomit. I was filled with joy. Right now I feel like I’ve just come off an adrenaline rush after a boxing match. I’ve barely had time to sleep, so I’m going to eat a bowl of spaghetti, take a nap, and try to process this.” —Andre, first nomination for Best Acting in a Short Form Comedy or Drama “The Eric Andre Show” He spoke after boarding an overnight flight from Alaska.
Carrie Coon, “The Gilded Age”
“I was crying, and my mom said, ‘You’re crying for your husband, not for yourself.’ And I said, ‘I don’t care about me. I’m excited for him.’ So it was a real surprise for us. There were no Emmy nominations for husband and wife on my bingo card this morning.” – Kuhn, nominated for Outstanding Actress in a Drama Series for “The Gilded Age.” Kuhn’s husband, Tracy Letts, was also nominated for Outstanding Guest Actor in a Drama Series for “Winning Time: The Rise of the Lakers Dynasty.”
Matt Bomer “Fellow Travelers”
“I’m so grateful. It was a wonderful surprise. Everyone around me wants no telling when this day is going to come, so I slept like a baby last night. I knew it was sometime in mid-July, but I was working and it was distracting. Thankfully, when my husband, Simon, came over and told me the news, it was such a lovely surprise. I was blown away, honestly. I’m so grateful for this show to be recognized. I’m so happy for the amazing work that Jonny (Jonathan Bailey) and Ron (Nisswaner, series creator and writer) have done, and the fact that we have two openly gay actors playing a gay romance with a gay writer and it’s been recognized in this way is just so moving to me.”
“This is a completely different industry than the one I was in 20, even 25 years ago. I’m so grateful to be here at this time and I’m so grateful to everyone involved and I’m thrilled that the three of us can be there at the Emmys representing all the people who worked so hard to make this show possible.” — Bomer, nominated for Outstanding Actor in a Limited or Anthology Series for “Fellow Travelers.”
Lamorne Morris, “Fargo”
“I get mentioned in honorable mentions and snubbed lists a lot of the time, which is great – at least people are recognising the work I’ve done on certain projects. I was shocked because I was looking forward to the show. But then I also found out I was nominated personally, and I really wasn’t expecting it. I was confident in my performance. It’s just a few slots, but I’m happy to be recognised.”
“It’s not that I didn’t have any expectations. I was excited when I saw Fargo was nominated. I wanted to see it. I asked my team, ‘Can I go?’ and they said, ‘Of course you can, you’re nominated.’ I was like, ‘What? What are you talking about?’ I couldn’t believe it. I’m still sitting here in shock.” — Maurice received his first nomination in the Best Supporting Actor in a Limited or Anthology Series category for Fargo.
Mark Duplass, “The Morning Show”
“It was a very special morning for so many reasons. It’s complicated, but in a lovely way. I got to call my daughter, who’s 16 and in the acting program at NYU. We just made our first short film together and she’s just starting her career, and I got to share this with her dad, who is the goofiest guy in the world. It was a really sweet moment. I called my parents and told them about how they funded our first independent film at Sundance, our journey so far, and so much more. But I think the best part of it was talking to the other nominees this morning, mostly over text.
“I’ve been nominated a few times, but before, it was like, ‘This is so amazing. You’re so excited, right? You’re so excited, right?’ It felt almost like a personal thing. This morning it was different. It was like, ‘Congratulations. How are you doing?’ It was taken like, ‘This is wonderful. This is a nice little award.’ But at the same time, everyone is really struggling right now. And there was a beautiful centrality to it. So I’m really grateful.” — Duplass, nominated for best supporting actor in a drama series for “The Morning Show.”
Kali Reis, “True Detective: Night Country”
“Usually I’m good with words, but to see that and to be in the company of someone so talented and graceful that I look up to, someone who’s already kicked the door open (Lily Gladstone), it’s just amazing. We’re making history as the first women to be nominated. This means so much, not just for us individually, but for us as a whole. We’re… as Indigenous people. It means so much. As Indigenous people, we have so many boxes to check collectively and individually. It’s a great time in history. It’s finally here. Once the door is swung open, we’re going to be in deep!” – Reiss, nominated for Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Limited or Anthology Series for True Detective: Night Country. Reiss and Gladstone made history as the first Indigenous women to be nominated in an acting category at the Emmys.
Nava Mau “Baby Reindeer”
“I’m filled with joy and gratitude. I cried for about 45 minutes straight. It feels like a life-changing day.”
“I am so humbled. Honored. I’m speechless. I know I’m by no means the first or the only or the last. I remember seeing Laverne Cox, Michaela Jay Rodriguez and Rain Valdes nominated and being so moved. We trans people have had to come together and fight for our human rights and access to housing, healthcare, employment, and now it’s amazing to see us being built up in the fabric of society as artists and storytellers as well. So I don’t take it lightly and I’m so honored to be a part of it.” — Mau, the first trans person to be nominated in the acting category in a limited or anthology series, was nominated for best supporting actress for her role in Baby Reindeer.
