Tyrese Gibson has opened up about the difficult times he experienced as a child and revealed the plan his mother came up with to help the family with living expenses.
The singer confessed in a new interview with King Gilley that when he was about 8 years old, his mother, Priscilla Murray Gibson, made him pretend to have special needs so she could receive big checks from the Social Security Administration.
Specifically, the “Fast and Furious” actor alleged that Priscilla made him “pretend to be abused” in order to obtain an extra $762 from the government to help her hard-working mother provide for her family.
Check out the video… Tyrese doesn’t seem too fazed by the ploy, laughing as he recounts the story and calling the payment “government cheese.”
For Tyrese, The Lie was his “first acting job,” while his King Gilley co-star Wallo called Priscilla Tyrese his “first-time director.”
Tyrese’s confession has already sparked mixed reactions among fans, with some fans condemning and others praising him. Some fans have taken issue with Tyrese using “the R-word in 2024,” while others have expressed concern about the repercussions he may face for speaking the truth now.
Tyrese’s mother passed away in February 2022 after battling COVID-19 and pneumonia. She was in a coma before losing her health battle, and Tyrese called her death “the saddest moment of[his]life.”

He continued on Instagram at the time: “Our family is devastated and can’t believe this….May the Lord Jesus Christ honor our walk with you and receive you in Heaven.”
Time heals all wounds… and possible transgressions… as Tyrese says in the clip – “The government can’t arrest my mother, because she’s gone.”
