He turned 37 earlier this year and has decided to quit cycling at the end of the 2024 cycling season. Rigoberto Uran insists he will end the 20-year cycling season. The Colombian athlete, who spent the last nine years of his career as a competitive cyclist with his current EF Education-EasyPost team, is now focused on a new challenge and has a rather unique dream in mind.

He won 14 times in his career and competed in 25 Grand Tours. But after 2024, Rigo decided the time had come.
“The competition has definitely gotten stronger,” Uran said of the final years of his career in a conversation with El Colombiano. “Overall, I prepared well, but when I actually went to the race, it was difficult to be among the best. Uran, who is planning an ambitious career change, said, “I don’t know who can beat Pogacar.”
Uran admits that the current generation in cycling is at a very high level and it is difficult for older riders to compete. “Once upon a time, Alejandro Valverde did it. He was an icon who had a brilliant career and won at an old age. After him, no one can beat Pogacar. We are already seeing a talent that has been compared to Eddy Merckx.” they are on another level. I have never seen anything like Pogačar. It’s incredible. ”
Now that he has more time to focus on other things, Uran doesn’t expect to find himself in a post-career vacuum. Instead, Colombians have ambitious dreams. “I’m going to focus on professional football. It’s a dream and I’m going to give it a shot and see what happens. My goal is to become a professional football player. What I’m a little crazy about is You know, I just love doing things,” the veteran concluded with a laugh.
