MILAN — One power-hot couple: Zoe Kravitz appears in a Saint Laurent book video and sensual images released last week, while fiancé Channing Tatum will be the epitome of eroticism in Versace, WWD has learned.
The Italian brand has tapped the actor to be the face of its men’s fragrance Versace Eros, whose new campaign will be released on August 6th and will also be accompanied by a short film.
While this is Tatum’s first campaign for the brand, he has been close friends with the brand’s chief creative officer, Donatella Versace, for many years and has worn the brand on the red carpet many times.
“This campaign feels so special and personal to me because when I started modeling in the 2000s, Versace was a brand I always wanted to work with but never got around to it,” Tatum said. “The Versace name means so much to so many people around the world and I am truly honored to be a part of that legacy. Donatella is a true icon and friend, and I can’t wait to see the reaction to what we’ve created together.”
While keeping details of the campaign’s concept secret, Versace said, “It was a pleasure working with Channing on this shoot. Not only does he look great, he also brought his heart and soul to this campaign.”
“He exudes strength and power and is one of the most gentle and charming men I have ever met. He defines modern masculinity. The perfect Versace man. There is no one better to embody eros,” the designer said.
Reportedly, the first Eros fragrance, named after the Greek god of love and son of Aphrodite, was released in 2012. At the time, Versace decided to delve deep into mythology as a tribute to his brother and late founder of the brand, Gianni Versace’s love of Greek history.
Developed by Versace fragrance licensee EuroItalia, Eros has become one of the brand’s instantly recognisable signature scents thanks to its geometric bottle featuring typical Versace codes such as the Medusa head and Greca motifs. The latest campaign launches the new Eau de Parfum Pour Homme flanker, which joins the collection’s existing Eros and Eros Flame fragrances.
In light of his new role, Tatum is expected to further strengthen his relationship with Versace: The actor, who attended the Versace Fall 2023 Fashion Show in Los Angeles, the Versace Icons Dinner earlier this year, and the Versace x Net-a-Porter Pre-Oscar Party, recently wore the brand while co-starring with Scarlett Johansson to promote his upcoming film, Fly Me to the Moon, which focuses on the 1960s space race and the subsequent Apollo 11 moon landing.
For the occasion, Tatum hit the red carpet at the world premiere in New York in a custom pinstripe suit by Atelier Versace, followed by a double-breasted grey suit from Versace’s Pre-Fall 2024 collection for the film’s photocall in Madrid.
Next up, he’ll be busy promoting Kravitz’s film “Blink Twice,” which hits theaters on August 23 and stars Tatum alongside Naomi Ackie, Christian Slater, Simon Rex, Adria Arjona, Kyle MacLachlan and Haley Joel Osment, among many others.
Euro Italia has been a Versace licensee since the launch of Bright Crystal, the first fragrance the two companies co-created, in 2005. Sales of Versace fragrances increased 25% last year, particularly in the United States, China and travel retail, which were one of the main reasons Euro Italia reported record sales, up 24.4% over 2022 to 857.4 million euros.
In addition to Versace, EuroItalia’s portfolio also includes licenses for Michael Kors, Moschino, Missoni, Dsquared2 and Brunello Cucinelli, as well as its own labels such as Naj Oleari Beauty and Atkinsons 1799.
Earlier this year, both Donatella Versace and Giovanni Sgariboldi, president and founder of Euroitalia, were honored by Italian President Sergio Mattarella. Donatella Versace was awarded the title of Gran Ufficiale of the Order of Merit of the Italian Republic, one of the Italian Republic’s highest honors, in recognition of her contributions to Italian fashion and culture and her humanitarian work. Sgariboldi is one of 25 people to have been awarded the title of Knight of the Order of Merit of the Italian Republic, along with Louis Vuitton Chairman and CEO Pietro Beccari and fashion designer Chiara Boni, among others.
