NORTH ATTLEBORO – A day after eight bulls escaped from a rodeo in North Attleboro, Massachusetts, the search for the escaped bulls continued into Monday afternoon.
A bull escapes from the rodeo at Emerald Square Mall
According to the North Attleboro Fire Department, the bulls escaped around 12:30 p.m. Sunday while participating in a rodeo at Emerald Square Mall on Route 1, which is also near Route 295.
Video posted online shows the bulls sprinting toward a chain-link fence gate, one breaking through it and the rest of the herd following suit before running off through a parking lot.
“It was insanity.”
Kyle Massey was leaving the mall with his 10-year-old daughter when they were stopped at a traffic light.
“I looked to my right and there were about six or seven bulls. I thought they were just walking through the parking lot with the (rodeo) spectators,” he told WBZ-TV.
“Then I saw them coming and I said to my daughter, ‘I think they got away,’ but I still didn’t really believe it, because it was kind of unbelievable. So I started recording.”
“They ran across the road to avoid all the cars, into a parking lot and into the woods,” Massey said. “The cops were chasing them. The whole show crew ran across the road. It was madness.”
Bull captured 3 miles away
One bull was captured shortly after it escaped, but the other six were found around 4:30pm Sunday afternoon trapped behind a fence outside a home about three miles away on Prescott Road in Attleboro.
Chris Mooney had brought his children and dogs home when the bull appeared on his street.
“I thought I saw what looked like a horse outside, but then I went outside and saw six bulls coming down the road,” he told reporters.
One bull is still at large.
Fire officials said one bull was still at large in the area of Allen Avenue in North Attleboro Monday afternoon.
“Area residents are urged to use extreme caution and not approach the bull if they spot it. If spotted, area residents are urged to call 911,” police said in a statement.
Rodeo employees were assisted by the Massachusetts State Police Aviation Wing in the search efforts.
Attleboro police said early Monday that the bull was last seen around 6 a.m. on Old Post Road in North Attleboro.
“We will respond to any sightings in Attleboro, but we ask that they stay within North Attleboro if possible,” Attleboro Police Chief Kyle Heaney told WBZ-TV.
No one was injured in the escape, and the fire department said the rodeo was a one-day event and that the investigation is ongoing.
