The Minnesota Vikings are addressing a major void at left tackle ahead of Week 9 by trading for Jacksonville Jaguars offensive lineman Cam Robinson, team officials confirmed Tuesday.
According to team officials, Minnesota will receive Robinson and a conditional 2026 seventh-round pick, while the Jaguars will receive a conditional 2026 fifth-round pick that could become a fourth-rounder depending on playing time. obtained.
The Vikings, who started 5-0 but lost back-to-back games, lost quarterback Sam Darnold after losing standout LT Christian Darrisaw to a torn ACL and torn MCL during a 30-20 loss. They will rely on Robinson, 29, to protect the blindside. to the Los Angeles Rams in Week 8.
Robinson, a second-round pick in 2017, spent nearly eight seasons in Jacksonville. He started seven of the Jaguars’ eight games in 2024 and played in 91 games over his career.
What will Robinson provide in Darrisaw’s absence?
In the words of one AFC executive, Robinson is “definitely a starter.” The Vikings have an elite player in Darrisaw, and if they don’t complete this acquisition, they’ll have to move to backup David Quessenberry, shift Blake Blundell to left tackle, or have subpar options. There probably wasn’t.
Robinson will be a free agent after this season, so Minnesota acquired him as a half-season rental to ensure the left side of the offensive line won’t disrupt Minnesota’s offense. Robinson is by no means an elite player. Of his 62 certified tackles, he ranks in the back half in pressures allowed. Pro Football Focus criticized him for allowing four sacks on the season, but the Jaguars’ disjointed offense is an important context to note in these metrics.
Robinson also classifies as a solid but not exceptional run blocker.
Another factor in the move is what Robinson wants to prove as he approaches free agency after this season. An exceptional performance going forward could put him in a good position to earn a higher contract, as well as potentially getting a compensatory pick back to the Vikings. — Alec Lewis, Vikings beat writer
