Jira Yagbonwura Biyi Knut Jew Soare I and Samuel Abu Jinapor
The King and Monarch of Gonja Kingdom, Zira Yagbonwura Biyi Knut Jew Soare I, has expelled the Minister of Lands and Natural Resources, Samuel Abu Jinapor, from all palaces in the kingdom.
Affirming the ban in a video shared by Radio Tamale, Yagbonwura’s son and spokesman said the King has ordered all paramount chiefs in the kingdom not to receive Samuel Abu Jinapor in their palaces.
He added that the Gonja overlord had vowed to take action against any chief who defies his orders.
“He (Yagbonwura) has decided that he will not accept anyone under the leadership of Jinapor or his cohorts. Any group that comes to him, whether they are government or political party members, if they have Abu Jinapor in their group, he will not accept them.”
“And this decision is binding on all the territories in Gonja. The territories are Bole, Kpebi, Wasipe (Daboe), Bupe, all the territories. For now, they are all included until further notice and he does not want any of them,” the spokesman said.
He added: “And all those who accept him. He will have some connection with that chief. So he expelled them all. This decision is binding on all chiefs.”
The spokesman did not give a reason for the ban, but a video shared by Radio Tamale showed the protests against the Minister of Lands’ interference in chiefdom issues.
Meanwhile, the Lands Minister, who is also the Member of Parliament for Damongo, denied allegations that he interfered in the chieftaincy dispute.
“There have been reports in both mainstream and social media that I am meddling or interfering in the affairs of Gonja chiefdom in general and Damongo in particular, for the record, these allegations are totally false.
“As I have said many times before, I have no interest in the Damongo chiefdom. As a bona fide Gonja prince, I continue to hold in high regard the respected chiefdom, the Sovereign of Gonjaland, Yagbonwura Bikunut Dziew Soare and all other chiefs,” the statement he issued read in part.
