Virginia Governor Glenn Youngkin and Secretary of Labor Bryan Slater will attend the Henrico Workforce and Career Development (CTE) LifeReady Expo at Hermitage High School on September 24th from 6pm to 8pm.
Youngkin and Slater will visit the event, where Henrico High School students in grades 6-12 and their families can meet with a variety of employers, starting around 7:30 p.m. This year, 129 different companies from 17 different career fields are expected to participate, including construction, engineering, business management and health sciences.
At the event, students and their families will have the opportunity to discuss training programs, salaries and benefits with employers and learn about various career paths. Attendees will also have the opportunity to tour Hermitage’s newly constructed Advanced Career Education (ACE) Center and discuss coursework and future career plans with current ACE Center upperclassmen.
At last year’s Career Expo, hundreds of students and their families filled the hallways of Hermitage High School to speak with 150 companies. Students’ career interests were diverse, with some interested in the trades, others hoping to pursue careers in nursing or teaching, and others hoping to join the military.
This year, the Henrico Citizen will have a booth at the expo to provide students interested in journalism an opportunity to learn how they can get involved with the Citizen and local news in the area, as well as learn about the various possibilities for a career in journalism.
