YSR Congress Party (YSRCP) general secretary Sajjala Ramakrishna Reddy on Tuesday denied allegations that he was involved in harassing an actress in Mumbai and assured that legal action would be taken.
He slammed a local newspaper report which alleged that he, then a government adviser to the Jagan Mohan Reddy government, had influenced the police to file a “false” case against the actress and her family.
Sajjala Ramakrishna Reddy accused the TDP-led coalition government and its media allies of running a campaign to divert people’s attention from issues like non-fulfillment of manifesto promises, rising violence, killings and destruction of property.
He alleged that the local media was fabricating stories to tarnish the reputation of the YSR Congress party and its leadership.
He said the particular article titled “Harassment of actress in Mumbai: Help from Sajjala” was completely false and part of a wider nefarious plan and blamed the ruling party and its supporters for spreading this misinformation through social media and other channels.
Sajala threatened to take legal action against the magazine and described the article as an unfair attack on his character and reputation.
According to a report in a Telugu daily, the YSRCP leader from Krishna district and the actress were romantically involved with each other.
When the actress insisted on getting married, the leader refused and sought the help of Ramakrishna Reddy to implicate her and her family in a fake case.
Reportedly, the police had filed a false case against the actress and her family in February 2024 at the behest of Ramakrishna Reddy.
A police team from Vijayawada went to Mumbai, arrested the actress and her parents and took them to Vijayawada.
According to reports, the actress and her parents were harassed after she was released on bail and they were warned of severe consequences if they demanded the YSRCP leader marry her.
