Former Deputy Governor of Zamfara State, Muktari Ahmad Anka, has commended President Tinubu for his fight against banditry and warned Governor Dauda Lawal not to thwart the efforts of the Minister of State for Defence, Matawalle.
Anka said he was joining many supporters of the Federal Government in the ongoing offensive against armed banditry in the Northwestern states of the country.
This was contained in a press statement personally signed by Anka, who served as deputy governor of Zamfara state from 2007 to 2011. The statement was distributed to journalists in Gusau, the state capital.
Ankah commended President Bola Tinubu for directing the Minister of State for Defence, Bello Mohammed Matawalle, to wage war on bandit camps across the region, but admonished the current governor, Dauda Lawal, for interfering with the operation.
He noted that this is strictly a national security issue and is being effectively handled by the military in the region.
He said: “Let us support Matawalle to succeed in his ongoing onslaught against bandits in the North-West.”
“The need for the people of Zamfara State to remain focused on the ongoing fight against armed banditry cannot be overemphasised because just as the Federal Government is doing its best to bring lasting peace to the state and the area, we the people need to support its efforts.”
“This is not the time for political infighting but an opportunity for us as leaders to respond to the call of our people to partner with the Federal Government to completely rid our states and areas of banditry.”
He said it was good and a sign of success that former Governor Matawalle, who is now Minister of Defence, coincidentally in charge of the operation.
Anka called for the full support of the people to ensure that he effectively wins the confidence of the Federal Government and makes the people of Zamfara State proud of their Ambassador in the Federal Executive Council.
He further stated that if these criminals are eradicated and people are free to move to farms, produce enough food to ensure food security and create the enabling environment for growth and development, the Tinubu administration would do its best to restore hope and confidence of the people.
